My 4th night back on the bridge. Tonight the street girls showed up. They all sing with me. I taught them Jingle Bells, Stand By Me, Old McDonalds Farm, ABC song and a few others; they remember them all. They “sing for their supper”. Absolutely beautiful tragedy that almost makes you cry. We fed 18 kids, so the first few nights went from 6, 5, 11 to 18. I should think we’d be back to the 20-30 number soon. I look at these tiny children (especially the girls) and I dread the future that awaits them and don’t want to think about their present situation which is probably worse than any of us might imagine. I hope soon we, me and my Khmer [Cambodian] female help, can do something more about them.  Its a very complicated situation as I know nothing of their families, mamasans  or whoever might be in control of them and sending them on their nightly mission. What I do know is the food and music is very good for them, especially the girls, who come back to the bridge after they eat to have more fun singing and all. I am strict with tourists about taking pictures, giving them money or other goods and I am strict with the children in their behavior as well. I tell the tourists that if they are going to take pictures of the children give me money so I can take care of them. They usually do. I hesitate to do much picture-taking etc myself as I regard these kids as human beings not tourist attractions. Someone actually suggested that if I put The Kids on the Bridge on TripAdvisor it would be the top attraction in Siem Reap. Good gawd! However, that said, for those of you who follow this I will be posting some video of the kids singing cuz its so precious. Best gig I’ve ever had.
